Emerald Food Journal

Write for us

We welcome well-shaped pitches from writers who can make a food subject clear and interesting to a general reader. Emerald Food Journal covers ingredients, kitchen craft, food history, foodways and the experience of eating together.

What we are looking for

Propose a focused story with a clear reader in mind. We are interested in explainers, comparisons, histories, careful examinations of common assumptions and useful guides to a specific cooking or eating occasion. Strong ideas have a distinct central question, a sensible scope and a reason the subject will remain useful beyond a passing trend.

What to include in a pitch

Send a working title, a short summary of the main idea, the category it fits and a brief note about how you would develop it. Say what the reader will understand or be able to do by the end. Flag any specialist claims, sources or potential conflicts of interest relevant to the proposal. A complete draft is not needed for an initial pitch.

How to send it

Use the Contact page and choose the editorial question option for your proposal. Please send an original idea and do not present unverified claims as established fact. We cannot promise publication, a particular response time or payment terms through the pitch form.
